UPCOMING GAMING ACTIVITIES

HELLO

Welcome to the very first blog entry on my first blog! As an older retired gamer, my interests are varied, and I have lots of free time, both days and evenings. They include board games, miniatures, and even a bit of role playing now and then. I play at the mighty Metrowargamers Club in Park Slope, and also run certain things at my place here in downtown Brooklyn. Here are a few planned events coming up I'm hosting, as well as new board games that I've picked up recently and am looking for opponents to play--in either location:

Wed. Oct. 22 Heroscape (at home) Evening
Sat. Nov. 22 Spanish Civil War in 54mm (miniatures at home, noon)
Dec. (TBA) Memoir 44 Overlord: Hedgerow Hell (multiplayer) on the weekend at the club on a Saturday or Sunday to be announced.

New Boardgames: Looking To Play

Shogun by Queen (Dice Tower), Hold The Line (simple ARW), Memoir 44 Mediterranean Expansion, MWaHaHaHa! (Mad Scientist Card Game), Age of Gods, Gheos, Munchkin Cthulu, and China: The Middle Kingdom (the Brittania version of Chinese history), The First World War (Phalanx), Command and Colors Ancients.

THANKS TO THE GANG AT METRO

For getting me this far, thanks to everyone at the club! Most especially thanks to John Lynch for many hours shopping for and setting up this latest home computer system for this barely computer literate guy, and Tim Staines for helping me get up and running here on the blog. Going back to my first joining Metro in 1998, thanks to Igor Olshansky, figure painter extraordinaire, for driving me to the club each weekend for as long as you had a car. Kudos as well to James Grotto for building our great two story tables and so much else at the old Williamsburg club site, and now in Park Slope as well. Grateful Appreciation to Metropolitan Wargamers Club Presidents Joe Brophy (past) and Peter Bless (present) for keeping things going these past ten years. To my pal member emeritus Pete Stein, now living in some foreign country called The Midwest, for never giving up on board gaming at the club. God Bless and keep you all.

Articles by me on 54mm miniatures gaming were published in the old MWAN magazine for years in my former column Those Fightin' Fifty-Fours. They should be available online at magweb.com or by searching my name out.

RECENT METRO TOPICS

My recent emails on the club discussion group include a report on the Council of Five Nations Con XXXI up in Schenectady, NY, (Columbus Day weekend), reviews of new board games, and my gaming at the club in such current series as 40K with Mike Wilner (specializing in the Tau Empire).

BOARD GAMES I'VE INTRODUCED AT METRO

Over the years, I've enjoyed bringing many board games to the club, where there is usually someone who'll try almost anything, which pretty much sums up my interests. So on the subject of old board games I got on to first: Joan of Arc, Shattered States, Fire and Axe, Twilight Imperium, Warcraft, Babylon 5, Starcraft, Axis and Allies D-Day, Exalted: War For the Throne, Age of Gods, Memoir 44 Overlord, Battle Lore, Perikles--to name a few. I've got lots of other old board games, mostly simple or multiplayer, that I'd like to try again.

COLLECTIBLE GAMES I'M PLAYING CONTINUOUSLY

Haven't played in a while: Heroclix, Mechwarrior. Now playing: Star Wars Land and Spaceship Minis, Axis and Allies Land and Naval Minis, and most of all Heroscape--technically not collectible (but just try 'collecting' all the expansion sets--good luck).

CONS ATTENDED REGULARLY

Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (www.HMGS.org) Historicon (July) and Cold Wars (March) in Lancaster, PA at The Lancaster Host. I was a lone gamer until the fellas at Metro got me going to these fine miniatures conventions, where you can meet gamers from up and down the East Coast, try new games, and buy lots of stuff...

***
AND THAT'S THE STORY

So if you want to play a game, contact me via the club discussion group and we'll set something up. If you're thinking of coming down to check out our club, do it--they're a great bunch of guys, playing in a pleasant and spacious location, in a safe and upscale neighborhood. Until next time, take care.
